I love this picture! At first glance, it just seems like a regular image of a father washing his baby in the sink. But in reality, this is Derek Graham, a senior trooper in West Virginia. Before this picture was taken, Derek had stopped a car and arrested a woman who was heavily intoxicated. When Derek and his partner searched the car, they found a baby stuck in its car seat, completely covered in vomit, urine, and feces. The baby was only wearing a dirty diaper. They took the baby back to the police station and called Child Protective Services (CPS). While waiting for them, Derek couldn’t stand hearing the baby cry, so he decided to give the baby a warm bath in the sink. Eventually, the baby was placed with a relative.
There’s something really emotional about this picture. Maybe it’s because it looks so normal—just a man giving a baby the care it needs. That’s what every baby deserves: normal care and love.
