This photograph features my son and his cousin taken on December 31, 2015, following the final cow's departure from the barn. My family utilized this barn for milking cattle for over five decades. My brother had been tending to his herd in this facility until his tragic passing in a hunting accident at the end of November 2015. We persevered in maintaining the herd throughout December, ultimately deciding to sell them. These two young men, who are my brother's nephews, managed to hold themselves together during this difficult time; however, witnessing the last cow leave was an emotional moment for all involved. Farming and milking cows is inherently a family endeavor, and it often brings with it a sense of sorrow, highlighting the deep commitment these two had for their uncle.
